About Me

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with almost thirty years of experience working with children, families, and individuals.  As a mother of three boys, I appreciate the challenges that families face in bringing up emotionally strong children, maintaining a fun and rewarding marriage, and still finding time to grow as individuals.  I am also aware of the challenges that single men and women face in our society.  I pride myself in being an effective facilitator of change, in a manner that all involved feel respected and understood.

I received my Ph.D. from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas in 1980 after completing doctoral requirements in both Clinical Psychology and Lifespan Developmental Psychology.  Thereafter, I was an Assistant Professor at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas and later at the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Texas.  In 1986, I entered private practice and served as a consulatant and evaluator for several school districts in the Houston area.  I opened my private practice in Colorado Springs in 1995, working with a broad spectrum of clients.  I also work as a Military Family Life Consultant for Mental Health Network.  I have published many research articles and book chapters and have edited two books which have been on the market for the last twenty years, Caring for the Alzheimer's Patient: A Practical Guide, 3rd Edition, and Caring for the Parkinson's Patient:  A Practical Guide, 2nd Edition.  I was formerly president of the Pikes Peak Region Psychological Society.

My theoretical approach is developmental in perspective and is rooted in psychodynamic, cognitive restructuring, behavior modification, and family system models.  I have been especially effective in working with clients who have had longstanding issues and multiple therapists without resolving the pain or behavior patterns that continue to diminish life satisfaction.    I am an interactive, solution-focused therapist and offer both support and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I integrate complementary methodologies and techniques to offer a highly personalized approach tailored to each client. With compassion, understanding, and years of personal and professional experience, I work with each individual to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.
